EPL® : The Effectiveness of Pulsed Light

Polychromatic pulsed light (PPL), with the scope of its light spectrum and the various filtering possibilities available, can offer a multitude of applications:

- Long-term depilation,

- Photorejuvenation (collagen remodelling, treatment of pigmentation patches and redness)

- Acne; for medical applications (Exclusively on our Anthelia® equipment).

It is the result of intense, instantaneous light, emitted on the body to heal and enhance it, with no side-effects.

In the case of collagen remodelling, the pulsed light generates a provoked, entirely natural reactivation of collagen and elastin.
The treatment is painless and presents no risk to the human body.

It can be used on fair and dark skin and, within the scope of long-term depilation, on all skin tones - phototypes 1 to 6. (Exclusively on our Anthelia® equipment).

This new technology, which has evolved considerably over the last ten years, is fully mastered on our various product ranges: Anthélia® and Ariane®.

Procedure

The light is absorbed by the melanin (in the case of long-term depilation) or by the haemoglobin (in the case of photorejuvenation).

Transformed into heat, the light – depending on the temperature achieved – can either stimulate collagen production or, at higher temperatures, provoke the coagulation of proteins for depilation or applications for reducing redness/rosacea.

Treatments offered

Pulsed light can be used in treating acne (exclusively reserved for doctors on Anthélia®), vascular and pigmentary lesions on all patients (men and women of all skin tones), whilst offering photorejuvenation of the face and body.

Acne treatment (*)

Following the absorption of the light by the haemoglobin, the light causes the weakening of sebaceous gland production, which causes acne.

Permanent depilation** or long-term depilation

The principle employed in permanent depilation (**Of the hairs in anagen phase; paradoxical regrowth is always possible.) or long-term depilation by pulsed light is to send a penetrating red light through the skin, which will be absorbed by the dark melanin in the hair bulbs and transformed into heat.

The temperature achieved at the base of the hair is such that a coagulation of the germinative tissues (papilla and sheath) is brought about, leading to the elimination of hair at the anagenous stage (100% eliminated).

The other hairs at the catagenous or telogenous stage will continue their growth cycle.

6 to 8 weeks later, they will be at the anagenous stage and can then be treated.
